Cocktail of the Week: The Cuban Special





While the summer seems a sadly distant memory given the hostile weather of late, CellarVie Wines are currently championing the virtues of our Spirit of the Month, Havana Club 7 Year Old Golden Rum. So with the aforementioned in mind we thought we would choose the Cuban Special as our Cocktail of the Week in order to light up the otherwise altogether gloomy and depressing elements.

Did you know: The cocktail shaker in its most primal form can be traced back to 7000 BCE in South America, when a jar gourd was used as a container.

By the late 19th century the cocktail shaker as we know it had been invented by an experimental innkeeper who shook two containers attached together for a "for a bit of a show". The first cocktail shaker was patented in 1872 by the inventor William Harnett.

Following Simon’s recent visit there we sought his advice on how to prepare an archetypal and authentic Cuban cocktail and he suggested the Cuban Special. Over

Cuban Special Recipe

Ingredients

60ml Cuban Rum (Havana Club 7 Year old Rum)

30ml Lime Juice

1 Tbsp Pineapple Juice

1 Tbsp Triple Sec

Method

Build ingredients over ice in a mixing glass

Stir and strain into a chilled cocktail glass

Garnish with a lime wedge or a pineapple slice
