Spirit of the Month: Havana Club 7 Year Old Golden Rum

Each month CellarVie Wines celebrates a Spirit of the Month by recommending four cocktails, one each week, that best showcase the unique flavours of the spirit in question. CellarVie Wines are proud to promote Havana Club 7 Year Old Golden Rum as our Spirit of the Month for June.

Made in Santa Cruz del Norte, Cuba, the now world renowned brand was established by José Arechabala in 1878. The company was nationalised in the aftermath of the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and the Arechabala family subsequently immigrated to America via a fleeting stay in Spain.

The art of Añejamiento ("ageing") and their respect for Cuban traditions are just a few of the fundamental essences behind Havana Club rum and its lofty reputation around the world.
All rums in the Havana Club range are aged, hence their name Añejo ("aged"), from young pale rums to aged and extra-aged rums: Añejo Blanco, Añejo3 Años, Añejo Especial, Añejo Reserva, Añejo 7 Años, Cuban Barrel Proof and Máximo Extra Añejo.

Havana Club’s recipes are a closely guarded secret, known only to the "Maestros Roneros" (literally "master rum-makers") but all of them have the same fundamental characteristics and incomparably high quality that are a testament to finest ingredients and noblest traditions of Cuban rum-making.

Tasting notes from Havana Club: Havana Club Añejo 7 Años is the epitome of Cuban rum. It is legendary rum which reinforces Cuba’s standing as the birthplace of the finest rums. Within the Havana Club range, Añejo 7 Años embodies all the distinctive flavours, richness and know-how for which Havana Club is renowned.

The unparalleled and acclaimed quality of Havana Club Añejo 7 Años is a tribute to the traditional Cuban rum-making process and knowledge. The lengthy and natural ageing process in white oak barrels infuses the rum with its powerful and complex flavours.

BBQ Spatchcock Piri-Piri Chicken

Summer has come to a close and autumn is well and truly on its way. Blustering winds, cooler temperatures and swiftly shortening days mean it will soon be time to wrap up warm and to make the most of the wonderful autumn produce on offer. Time to say goodbye to those fresh, summer whites and replace them with the warmer, more robust reds frequently associated with colder temperatures.
