A hopeless romantic

There’s nothing a girl likes more than being spoiled on Valentine’s Day; if you can throw a bit of romance in there too then you are really showing your style. Romance is, however, a difficult thing to define as it is so subjective, so a little care and attention has to be paid to make sure that you don’t blow it completely.

There are lots of things that romance is not but one thing we know is that it has to be special, out of the ordinary, different. We also know that there are some things that are considered very romantic like low lighting, candles, hearts, Champagne, flowers – the list goes on. One thing that isn’t romantic is something practical – as mentioned before it has to be thoughtful – whether a deed or a present – and it has to be different from the norm.

So this Valentine’s do something special. If you never cook, give it a go. If you can’t cook, pay for someone to do it for you and get a caterer in. If you never take your Valentine out, splash out and treat her to a meal...perhaps not McDonald’s but even Pizza Express is better than nothing. If she likes a glass of wine spend a bit more. Forget the Pinot Grigio - go for a Vermentino, shove the Kiwi Sauvignon to the back of the fridge and try a Sancerre, go mad and pop open a bottle of Bollinger – give her Bolly and the “darling” may come later!
