Callia Lunaris Chardonnay-Torrontés 2014

Callia Lunaris Chardonnay-Torrontés 2014

A golden-hued wine that has plenty of rich tropical fruit flavours of Chardonnay that is beautifully balanced by the aromatic and freshness of Argentina’s Torrontés grape. Fruity and fresh on the palate with a well-structured acidity and a pleasant, crisp finish, this wine is effortlessly drinkable with or without food.

San Juan region of Argentina

Behind Mendoza, San Juan is the second wine producing region in Argentina. San Juan is home to many varietals including Malbec, Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah and for white wines Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Torrontes and Viognier. Although currently most famed for its still wines it also has a long history of producing sherry, brandy and vermouth.
Like Mendoza, San Juan is a high altitude (600m-1200m), semi-desert with very little rainfall. The vineyards have to rely on irrigation from the regions rivers and meltwatre from the Andies to survive.

Chardonnay-Torrontés is an Argentine blend of two green-skinned grape varieties that are commonly grown in South America. The fuller-bodied Chardonnay tends to form the basis of the blend, while the more aromatic Torrontés grape (which is indigenous to Argentina) adds a lighter, floral lift to the wine’s bouquet. Wines made from this blend tend to be fresh and crisp, and for early consumption.

Salads & Vegetables
This style of wine would go with a grilled vegetable salad or an onion tart and the classic ratatouille.
Fish & Seafood
A fantastic wine to partner with shellfish such as crab or lobster. It would also work well with deep sea fish like swordfish, monkfish, tuna or turbot.
Pasta & Other Sauces
Butter and cream based sauces with the addition of mushrooms, pesto and pancetta work well with this wine.
A winner with poultry such as roast chicken and turkey but also a fine match to pork, ham and duck.
Herbs & Spices
This wine is a hit with ginger and parsley, tarragon and coriander but also works with classics like basil and garlic.
Spicy Foods
An instant hit with Indian coconut-based dishes such as Korma but works just as well with some Indonesian cuisine.
A treat with smoked cheeses and mozzarella and can handle most soft cheeses.
