Swedish company release wine handbags for women on the go





Following recent reports that suggested wine in cartons is set to become a successful niche in the UK, a Swedish company have gone a step further by releasing containers shaped like women’s handbags.

Vernissage intend to release their rather fetching (we lie) bag-in-bag wines across Sweden (in red, white and rose no less) in three shimmering checked patterns.
 
According to the company’s website, the wine is a “characteristically typical mixture of French Chardonnay and Viognier produced in one of Northern Europe´s most modern wineries, Nordic Sea Winery in Simrishamn” and contained in unique boxed-hand-bags courtesy of Sofia Blomberg’s design.
 
"The thought behind Vernissage is a playful approach to the curious and modern wine consumer. At the same time, a woman´s touch has propelled the Bag-in-Bag wine from the practical to the elegant,” the company states.

Vernissage's content is about 13% ABV and is said to be catered towards ladies on the go or dare we say it, perhaps those with an unquenchable thirst for wine.

While boxed-wine has retained a stigma of being inexpensive and often high in alcohol, bag-in-a-box concepts enable wine to stay fresh long after opening due to limited oxidation and subsequent spoiling of the wine. Globally, around 10% of still wines are packaged in cartons, which supporters suggest are lighter, easier to recycle and more convenient than glass bottles in addition to the aforementioned benefits.

Vernissage’s 1.5-litre Bag-in-Bags retail at $20 while their 3-litre bags are $40. What’s not to like?
